Morning Person is a weekly newsletter packed with obsessively-curated recommendations and ideas—let’s get to it!

📺 “Single, Drunk, Female” on Hulu: I began this show… hesitantly. The concept, of a twenty-something who moves back home and is court-mandated to join Alcoholics Anonymous as a result of her drinking felt like shaky ground for a comedy. But it quickly proved me wrong—Samantha, played by Sofia Black-D'Elia toes the line between messy and loveable, and is genuinely funny and relatable, as she puts the pieces of her life back together and owns up to her mistakes.

🎧 Jay Robinson’s “You Are Mine:” In 2005, a box of ‘70s soul recordings was unearthed at a garage sale in Columbus, Ohio. In 2007, they were released as a 19-song collection that included Penny & The Quarters’ song “You and Me,” which gained traction after it was featured in the 2010 film Blue Valentine. The whole album is fantastic, but I was recently reminded of Jay Robinson’s “You Are Mine” when it played at the end of an episode of the most recent season of “Love Life.” It sounds like spring itself, which is exactly the vibe I carried with me this week.
