📺 “The Afterparty” on Apple TV+: I like to think Agatha Christie would be pleased with her legacy. The number of Millenial whodunnits have exploded over the past few years, with favorites including Knives Out and “Only Murders in the Building.” (Not to mention, the upcoming Death on the Nile which definitely doesn’t co-star Armie “The Cannibal” Hammer, according to the latest cut of the trailer…). But I digress! “The Afterparty” is the latest addition to these high-stakes, good time romps. In it, Tiffany Haddish investigates a murder that takes place at the afterparty of a (oddly, 15 year?) high school reunion. Each episode tracks a different attendee’s perspective, playfully shifting genres from French noir to rom-com to action. Some of the jokes get a bit too dumb, but a good time overall.
🎧 Dead Eyes Podcast: The intro episode says it best when it describes this podcast as, “Like ‘Serial’ but about something really insignificant.” The mystery at its core? Comedian Connor Ratliff investigates a question that has plagued him for two decades: Why did Tom Hanks hire, then fire him, from a small role in the HBO miniseries, Band of Brothers for having “dead eyes”? The mystery is really just the cover for the hilarious conversations Connor has with other actors about their “dead eyes” moments, and the bizarre world of being an actor.
