🎥 I Want You Back on Prime Video. As with most rom-coms, enjoying this one requires the ability to effectively suspend reality for two hours and appreciate (endure?) sappy proclamations of love. In this case, Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate) have both been dumped and, upon meeting in their workplaces’ stairwell, devise a plan to break up their exes’ new relationships by respectively befriending and seducing them. To be honest, I spent the start of the movie wondering if I enjoyed it enough to continue, but the second half and great cast ultimately won me over like any good slow burn.

📚 Good Talk by Mira Jacob: Jacob’s memoir is written as a collection of conversations between friends, her Indian parents and extended family, and her white husband, as she explores her own relationship with race and racism and grapples with how to talk about it with her extremely observant, biracial young son. While Jacobs doesn’t make light of the micro-aggressions she faced as a young writer in New York or “the third Indian family to move to” New Mexico, she often imbues them with smart and funny observations that span her lifetime.
