Morning Person is a weekly newsletter packed with obsessively-curated recommendations and ideas—let’s get to it!
📚 True Biz by Sara Nović: At the start of Nović’s novel, three children have gone missing from the River Valley School for the Deaf under headmistress February Waters’s watch, including Charlie who six months earlier had never met another Deaf person. I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this book, namely the way ASL is woven throughout it, depicted fluently as text or illustrated signs to mimic Charlie’s experience of learning the language, but also through lessons for the reader. Thank you to the readers who recommended it to me last week in the comments here!
🎧 Borderline Salty Podcast: Let me begin by saying that, outside of my deep love for memoirs with recipes, I typically avoid watching or listening to food content. It’s just too torturous to watch someone create a delicious pasta or bake a maybe-not-cake (don’t get me started…) that I can’t taste through the screen. That being said, I was delighted by Carla Lalli Music and Rick Martinez’s new podcast which, in its first episode, supplied surprisingly revelatory answers to common cooking questions, broke down a TikTok fad, and gave me a new favorite pancake recipe.
