Morning Person is a weekly newsletter packed with obsessively-curated recommendations and ideas—let’s get to it!
📚 This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub: This breezy read was the perfect thing to bring to a wedding this weekend. Like a ‘Thirteen Going on Thirty’ in reverse, Alice wakes up the morning after her 40th birthday back in 1996 as a sixteen-year-old. The do-over gives her the opportunity to repair her relationship with her dad, with plenty of ‘90s nostalgia. New York plays such a pivotal role in the novel that reading it transported me straight back to Cobble Hill and the Upper West Side. (P.S., If you’re looking for more, Elif Batuman’s new novel, Either/Or is a followup to The Idiot and takes place the same year, though I have yet to read it!)
🎧 “Listening In” Podcast: This narrative podcast stars Rachel Brosnahan (of “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” fame) as a lonely New York transplant who begins listening in on her neighbors conversations through a glitch in her Alexa-like sound system. Part thriller, I found myself immediately engrossed in the gossip and drama—already looking forward to next week’s episode!
