Morning Person is a weekly newsletter packed with obsessively-curated recommendations and ideas—let’s get to it!

📺 “Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay,” available on Hulu: Phoebe Robinson, co-host of the popular podcast “2 Dope Queens,” stars as a fictionalized version of herself in this new show based on her bestselling collection of essays of the same title. It’s a fresh take on the now-timeless tale of a Millennial who has to get their act together and start “adulting” (…can we all agree to cancel that word?), punched up by Robinson’s wit (like when she walks out in a dress that’s giving off “I have read a book” vibes). Honestly, I’ll just leave you with Robinson’s own words: “The show’s ignorant AF, sexy AF, and lolz lolz AF!”

P.S. 2 Dope Queens co-host Jessica Williams plays a significant role in the second season of “Love Life” on HBO Max if you haven’t already seen it!

🎥 ‘Persuasion,’ starring Dakota Johnson: It’s best to think of this adaptation of the Jane Austen novel like zucchini noodles. Zoodles are delicious—so long as you don’t think of them as a stand-in for pasta. This adaptation is plucky, with “Fleabag”-esque fourth wall-breaking. But, as my friend Taylor texted me, “I loved the book, but this isnt…. it.” It doesn’t hold half the tension or subtlety of the book or the 1995 adaptation, and the tone is way more “Bridgerton” than Austen. But! At the same time, it’s worth watching for the big-budget costumes, stars, decadent sets, and contemporary spin. So long as you’re able to set aside the source material.
