“Harry and Meghan” Documentary on Netflix: Is it a stretch to call this a documentary? Sure. Are we all too obsessed with royals? Probably. Did I enjoy this exploration into Harry and Meghan’s lives before, during, and after royal life far more than I expected to? Absolutely. If nothing else, the limited series offers an intimate, if selective, peek into the extreme experience of life as a celebrity, in the context of a truly genuine-seeming love story. It’s also astounding to see how aggressively Meghan was targeted by the press, in articles that dripped in barely concealed racism. Worth the watch if you wanted a sequel to the Oprah interview (and more shots of Meghan feeding the chickens). 10/10 recommend downloading for your holiday flight home. Another great doc: ‘Pelosi in the House’ on HBO Max.
Curried Lentil Soup: Ahead of leaving for my trip, I made a double-batch of this curried lentil, tomato, and coconut soup by Yotam Ottolenghi and froze leftovers in freezer cubes for my return. It is so simple to make—the entire process takes all of 30 minutes—and feels decadently nourishing, topped with reserved coconut milk (next time, I may try it with a dollop of unsweetened coconut yogurt!) and fresh cilantro. It’s the perfect thing to make in the days after the holidays, when you’re tired of cooking but still looking for a satisfying, healthy meal.
