Reading your newsletter today, I kept thinking, I want to do the same exploration but where do I begin? Iโm thrilled that you are helping us take the same, important adventure. Thank you!
Grief is often associated with the passing of a loved one, but grief can also present in many other formats. Iโd love to see grief covered from alternative angles, such as grieving a decision youโve made or a relationship that has ended or changed. I recently made a decision not to have children, and as a result Iโve experienced a lot of grief - grieving a life I now know I will never have and grieving relationships that have been impacted by my decision. Might be something to explore with this community.
For April, some discussion around supporting others experiencing loss and grief would be helpful. I think so many of us donโt know what to do (and sometimes donโt engage as much as we could as a result).
The first topic on Death & Mortality will hit close to home as Iโm about to reach the 5 year mark of my dadโs๐ฅบ death in May. It would be great for toy to possibly interview Megan Divine. Her perspective on grief & death has helped me the most.
I work in a hospital and I think about death ~a lot~ (constantly). Iโm really fun at parties because I will ask complete strangers โhave you talked to your parents about their will/funeral/code status/burial wishes?โ Itโs not that I promote anticipating grief, but I think there is a lot of pain that can be avoided if we have these conversations with our loved ones (and ourselves!) way ahead of time! Navigating the logistical aspects of death is kind of like creating a city travel guide, only for a different kind of journey that we are ALL going to take. And you make the most amazing city guides!!
Those things are so important! Once you go through loss and realize you can't find their birth certificate or social security card... or you find he had a life insurance policy you never knew about!!!
Completely agree! I lost my mum in my 20s and then completely unexpectedly became estranged from my dad and he took all the promised money from my mum and also all of the things in our family home. I had zero right to any of it. If my mum had a will, this would've been avoided. I tell all my friends please get this organised because my family would've been the last people you'd think this would happen to. It's so important!
Long-time reader, first time commenter. I absolutely love this idea if inviting curiosity and intention into this space, and I've loved seeing your evolution, Leslie. Keep it up!
Really looking forward to this! Have gone through substantial amounts of grief, am on year 9 of therapy, and working hard to ground myself so that I can live as happy a life as possible. I hope we can all find what we need!
I just received a copy of Renegade Grief: A Guide to the Wild Ride of Life after Loss by Carla Fernandez in the mail yesterday so starting with Death + Mortality could not be more timely!! I love the idea of this series and I am thrilled to see more!

I love this. Iโd initially planned it around mortality and coping with our own, but itโs all so interwoven ๐

I am also almost at year 5 of my dad's death this June. Why does 5 feel so hard?
