Sunday Edition: Hate Cannot Drive Out Hate
Plus three nourishing dinners.
The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.

“Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Even before the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, I was feeling a sense of helplessness and uncertainty as to how to meet this moment. I’m sure you have too. It’s easy to feel angry and dejected watching our government systematically target and terrorize our communities. At the same time, I felt enormously inspired and buoyed by the outpouring of solidarity and love in Minnesota in contrast to ICE’s hate-fueled atrocities.
Watching the coverage of the general strike and protests on Friday in Minneapolis felt like proof that we are not alone in our shock and anger. They provided a salient reminder that our strongest way forward is uniting in nonviolent social change, momentum I hope we can maintain through the midterms to shift the tide of this fascist regime. Until then, so many people are doing on-the-ground work to protect our immigrant communities: Stand with Minnesota is an aggregate of mutual aid efforts and campaigns (you can donate wherever you live!) the Immigrant Defense Network is a Minnesota-based network aimed at protecting immigrants, and Sahan Journal is a nonprofit news outlet centering coverage about Minnesota’s immigrants and communities of color—they have a helpful resource list here. I’m also going through Leona Waller’s list of things to do to stop ICE now, wherever you live (like finally cutting myself off from Whole Foods).
Stay safe and stay warm out there! Read on for highlights and updates from my week:
