The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.
Hi, hello! It’s my birthday! This is not something I would have shouted from the rooftops your inbox in the past, but I’ve learned a thing or two in my 30s, one of them being: It is important and valid to celebrate yourself. I have all sorts of fun plans in store today, from brunch to a board game night, after taking the day yesterday to quietly reflect on my year. Here’s to 32! I really think it suits me… Read on for a few thoughts and obsessions from this week!
This marriage advice. I cannot tell you how happy to makes me to see your faces and chat “in person”! A group of us hopped on Zoom this past Thursday to chat about Wellness by Nathan Hill, which led to a broader discussion on placebos and relationships. One reader shared that, when she asked her mom for the secret to a successful marriage, she replied, “You just have to both completely buy into it.” That’s really it. Another added that it’s important to have a joint purpose with your spouse. Finally, a reader brought up this quote from the book that I’m leaving here because I love it: “Believe what you believe, my dear, but believe gently. Believe compassionately. Believe with curiosity. Believe with humility. And don’t trust the arrogance of certainty. I mean, my goodness, Elizabeth, if you want the gods to really laugh at you, then by all means call it your forever home.” Thank you for joining and keep an eye out for our March book club! Feel free to comment with any suggested books!
