Sunday Edition: Planting a Garden in the Midst of Chaos
Spring outfits, cacao coffee, and a touch of terror.
The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.
Watching the wildly unhinged presidential address to Congress would have been completely intolerable if not for my family group chat. Did he just say transgender instead of transgenic?? Texts between my mom and aunt flew across my phone screen as I chopped onions for tacos, all of us in a state of disbelief even as our own lives proceeded with some semblance of normalcy. This week was filled with similar paradoxes—planting a garden, while waiting to see if the Department of Education was, in fact, dismantled; sitting with clients who are concerned this administration will strip them of their basic needs, then admiring the early spring blooms on a walk in my neighborhood. I’ve never felt more confident and at ease with my own life, at the same time I’ve never felt so fearful for the world. It’s impossible to write about my week, which was full of beauty brought on by the early signs of spring, without acknowledging what a weird (and terrifying) time it is to be a human.
