This week began in the midst of Portland’s notorious “false spring,” with sixty-degree, sunshiney days that I took full advantage of, playing hooky to hike with friends in the Columbia River Gorge. By Wednesday, the overcast skies and rain had already returned, drawing me (and every other person in Oregon) back indoors, with brief walks and ventures out for soup and coffee. This balance is one of my favorite things about Portland: the rainy days make the sunny ones feel that much more magical.
