The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.
It turns out, the best way to meet neighbors is to have a fig tree in your front yard. Over the past two weeks, I’ve spent ten minutes after my morning walk harvesting the quickly-ripening fruits, plucking them before they plop to the ground. While I’ve been slow to meet the neighbors who don’t frequent the nearby dog park, or live directly next to me, many have slowed on their walks to chat and receive figs, prompting my new favorite morning ritual and a host of sweet exchanges—one neighbor offered to help me secure two-by-fours under the heavy branches, while another dropped a jar of raspberries at my doorstep later that afternoon. My trash man, who I’ve waved at a few times but never interacted with before now, hopped out of the truck and chatted with me while we munched on figs (!). It’s felt especially sweet, considering the fact that I’ve spent most days fairly isolated, catching up on work and all the home tasks that fell to the wayside during my book launch. I’m also prepping, like crazy, for a huge upcoming trip—details coming soon!
Tomorrow, I’m heading to a childhood friend’s wedding in Reno and Tahoe, but as soon as I’m back, I’ll be hosting our July book club meeting featuring none other than my book, You’re Safe Here! My editor, Taylor Rondestvedt will be joining for a brief conversation, followed by a discussion and Q&A. Read on for the link to join us on Tuesday, July 30th at 5 PM, PT. Hope to see you there!
