Issue #58: No More Bad Dinner Parties

Morning Person is a weekly newsletter packed with obsessively-curated recommendations and ideas—let’s get to it!

📺 “Five Days at Memorial” on Apple TV+: Not for easy viewing, this limited mini-series adaption of Sheri Fink’s Pulitzer Prize-winning article and subsequent book follows the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina at the Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans. As gut-wrenching as it is to watch, it’s an incredible story (Ryan Murphy tried to adapt the article for “American Crime Story”) that centers primarily on Dr. Anna Pou (Vera Farmiga) and other medical staff faced with a genuinely nightmarish situation. For something lighter: “Reboot” on Hulu is as funny as I hoped it would be.

🥗 Soba Bowls with Poached Salmon: Although this recipe, adapted from Sprouted Kitchen, requires a fair amount of cleanup and dishes—one to make the delicious ginger/tahini/lime sauce, another pan to poach the salmon in green tea (!), another to cook the soba—it’s well worth the effort. The result is a light, yet satisfying, meal that’s brightened by the addition of cilantro. This rec came to me by way of a reader who emailed me her “Just one thing” picks based on this issue. Thank you, Elizabeth!
