Sunday Edition: In Defense of Throwing Your Housewarming Immediately
My first week in my new home.
The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.
I had to check the previous Sunday Edition to confirm that it’s only been a week since I moved into my new house! Each day has been so packed to the gills that I somehow feel like I’ve lived here a month?? In the past decade, I’ve moved upwards of fifteen times which I think qualifies me as some sort of expert at quickly turning a fresh space into a home.
Though I’m waiting to settle in before making larger design decisions, I didn’t waste any time hanging existing art, building furniture, and setting up internet, my closet, and my kitchen (with the help of my mom, who visited this weekend, and many friends). I welcomed the arrival of my first big house purchase, did the requisite Costco/Target runs, hosted my oldest friend, and met so many neighbors, all of whom have been so warmly welcoming. It’s been chaotic, but I feel like I’m walking around in a cocoon of immense gratitude. I am so unbelievably happy here. Honestly, it almost feels too good to be true.
In just a few hours, I’m hosting a casual housewarming party. Although I could wait until things are a bit more set up, that plan could easily turn into a slippery slope. I’m a perfectionist (…guessing that doesn’t come as a complete shock??) so I could wait forever for things to be just right. Instead, I’m planning on serving a cheese and snacks, seltzer, and sparkling wine on tables made of stacked boxes of books to ring in my new home. After all, I can always host a more polished party later, and I have a feeling many more are to come… below are a few photos, highlights, and reflections from my week!
