🎥 ‘Babes,’ in Theaters: Eden (Ilana Glazer) has always been the single friend in this new comedy directed by Pamela Adlon (side note: I love her show “Better Things”). When Eden gets pregnant from a one-night stand and decides to keep the baby, she has to lean on her longtime best friend Dawn (Michelle Buteau), straining the limits of their close friendship. The movie documents pregnancy in a way I’ve never seen before, with raunchy and hilarious depictions of the love and tension present in a longtime friendship.
🥦 Sesame Tofu Broccoli by : Necessity was the mother of recipe discovery, in this case. When my flight home from San Diego was delayed by several hours, I stumbled upon this from Morning Person guest
. As promised, it came together in fewer than 30 minutes, using ingredients I had on hand (minus the scallions).📺 “Eric” on Netflix, out May 30: I’m eagerly awaiting the release of this limited series starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a father whose young son has gone missing in New York. In a desperate bid to reach his child, he begins to create a puppet that resembles his son’s sketches of a monster.

I’ve always designed my bedrooms around evenings, favoring dark and cozy hues that feel conducive to bedtime. The first time I walked into my new home and saw the sun-drenched primary bedroom, my priorities changed and I began to envision the room I wanted to wake up in. I imagined opening my eyes to the natural light that floods through the large window in the morning, and set about making that dream into a reality.
The white-painted wood floors and walls provided limitless possibilities as I considered my options. As I set about considering replacements for my bed (a squeaky borrowed number), I kept coming back to a canopy bed. I wanted something warm and inviting to mark the fresh chapter I was writing in my new home, and have always wanted one. I considered it for weeks, with my eye on one style in particular, before I posed the question in a “Sunday Edition.” Your responses were so considerate and involved, with most boiling down to, “Do it.” The next day, a representative from the brand of bed I mentioned reached out and offered to send me one. It felt like kismet, even as I wavered. I never include any sponsored (paid ad) or affiliate (kick-back) links here, since I only want to provide genuine recommendations, so the offer fell into a grey area. After going back and forth for months, I finally accepted the bed, since it was the exact one I planned on buying myself, with the qualifications that I could give my honest review.
I have to say: I couldn’t love it more. My bedroom is one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever woken up in—certainly the most beautiful place I’ve called my own. It’s a warm oasis in the heart of Portland that I keep filled with flowers and the musky rose scent of my favorite candle. The bed has completely transformed the vibe of the room, dressed up with pillows, and side tables I found at antique stores around town (sources below!). As the weather warms, I’ve taken to keeping the sliding glass doors open, letting the breeze in as Toast lets himself in and out of the backyard, to his heart’s content. I now keep my beloved copy of Devotions on a small wooden stool beside a meditation pillow, easily accessible for book-ending my mornings and evenings with poetry. It’s truly a dream room.
