Sunday Edition: Personally, I Am Careening Into Fall
Highlights, outfits, and recipes from my week.
The Sunday Edition is Tuesday’s little sister—off-the-cuff updates I’d bring up over a coffee catch-up with a friend.

It feels appropriate to be writing this on one of the first true fall mornings in Portland, still overcast and wet from last night’s rain. I just finished today’s “Modern Love,” which made me cry and reminded me of this week’s post on love, and am about to meet a friend at the farmers’ market to admire the final crop of melons, peppers, and stone fruit before we collectively pivot into fall.
I spent this week finalizing plans for the next few months, including cancelling a trip to Portugal I had pencilled-in for the end of this month. I went back and forth for weeks, but ultimately decided to save the money and avoid some chaotic scheduling. Although I technically could have made it work, I would have gotten back just days before another big adventure and opted to just… not (this, I believe, is called growth!). Read on for highlights from this week, including:
How to make a show-stopping cheese board entirely from Trader Joe’s ingredients
Tons of Portland recommendations, including my favorite Pilates studio and restaurant (and reaction to the New York Times “best of” list)
A small launch to celebrate
and my paperbacks

Processed 30+ heirloom tomatoes. You guys, my garden delivered this year (thanks entirely to Amelia telling me what to do). On Monday, a friend came over and kept me company while I took my mom’s advice to chop and cook down all of my remaining heirloom tomatoes into sauce. I thought I would freeze it to have on hand through the winter, but I’ve already eaten most of it—it’s so good! See the note below for my mom’s recipe in our family group chat:
